About Us​

​​The Children Folklore Group Slezanek comes from the town of Český Těšín - town in the North-East of the Czech Republic, on the borders with Poland.  It was established in 1979 as a part of  Folklore Group Slezan, which has been active since 1955. The group presents the folk songs and dances of the folklore region Těšínské Slezsko, a distinctive region with specific folk and marvellous folklor so different from all other regions of our republic.

The members are children aged 5-15. The membership has been changing according to the fact that those children, who grow up, move to the adult ensemble Slezan.

Slezanek is well-known and highly regarded in our country as well as abroad. It participates in plenty of festivals and different events in the Czech Republic, it has also visited interesting places in e.g. France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia etc.

The audience appreciates not only the natural children performance, a very good dance technique and melodious singing, but also the beauty of Těšín Czech folk costumes, which are exact reconstructions and copies of the original costumes from the 19th century. The dancing part is accompanied with the cimbalom music at each performance. The cimbalom music consists, apart from very interesting instrument - cimbalom, also of violin, bass and clarinet/flute.

The endeavor of the Children Folklore Group Slezanek is to keep the biggest part of the rich cultural heritage of the folklore region Těšínské Slezsko for future generations.

Being successful in this part will be the greatest award of their work.
